If you're a creative professional, you may be exceptional at your craft, but you may not find the business side of your career easy to navigate.
I've been there. After graduating form college with a degree in music and business, I was anything but prepared for a career in music as I'd always dreamed. I knew how to play and sing, but I didn't have a clue about making a living.
I bounced around from job to job for a few years, and I learned a bunch about business and about working with people. But I kept coming back to my main desire, to make music full time.
The realization that entrepreneurship was the missing link was slow to dawn, but when it did, my career direction took a turn.
And I failed.
More than once.
The lowest point was taking a job installing carpet in a Motel 6 in Nashville just so I could keep potatoes in the pot, and a roof over my head.
That low point actually served me really well. I became much more diligent about learning the business of being creative, and a year later, I was making a full time living by performing and teaching music.
A few years later an interesting thing happened. I got sick. So sick that I almost died.
In the midst of this sickness I still needed a way to make money to provide for my family.
Friends and students started coming to me out of the blue to ask for help in starting their own creative businesses. These requests turned into a career that I've become as passionate about as music - business coaching for creatives.
In the last 10 years I"ve coached and taught hundreds of people in three primary areas:
- Starting a business based on your creative passion.
- Expanding your audience.
- Increasing your bookings and sales.
I also offer both real world and online support programs for creative professionals to help with the common experiences of fear, isolation, desperation, and self doubt.
I try to keep my programs affordable, and offer them as widely as I can.If you have any questions about me or my experience, please get in touch through my website, http://franklintaggart.com
I look forward to our work together!
PS I recovered from my illness and have been happily making music again since 2011, in addition to my coaching.
